Human Atlas — Interactive 3D Anatomy
A browser-based 3D atlas of the adult human body, built for students who study anatomy at a desk. The whole body comes apart into 2,234 selectable pieces across 15 systems, and each bone opens a study sheet with its parts, joints, clinical notes and classic Gray's Anatomy plates. Named bony landmarks are pinned on the model, and a quiz mode asks you to identify them.
// Architecture
We extended an open-source React and Three.js viewer of the BodyParts3D dataset (CC BY 4.0) with a study layer of our own. Landmark positions are stored as rules rather than coordinates and resolved by a build script against the real mesh vertices, then checked by validation scripts. The result is a static Vite build with compressed binary mesh chunks, served directly by nginx with no backend.
// Key capabilities
Every bone as a study sheet
116 named bones grouped by region, each with an overview, parts, articulations and clinical notes, plus public-domain plates from Gray's Anatomy (1918).
Landmarks on the model
Foramina, processes, ridges and joint surfaces are pinned on the real mesh, colour-coded by type, hidden when occluded and listed with their muscle attachments.
Quiz mode
Any bone with enough landmarks becomes a practice quiz: the atlas marks a point and asks which structure it is.
Search in Persian and Latin
Structures can be found by English, Latin or Persian name, with left and right sides handled, and the soft-tissue organs have their own reference text.
